INTRODUCTION<\/strong>
‘AKWAABA\u2019 (welcome) to the fifth symposium of the IGCP638 on the Geodynamics and mineralization
of the West African Craton (WAC), which will take place on December 4th – 9th, 2022 in Ghana. It will
be jointly organized by the local organizing committee and the members of the West African
Exploration Initiative (WAXI).<\/p>\n\n\n\nIt will join the international scientific community (academia and industry) on the topic: \u201cGeology of the
Paleoproterozoic formations for sustainable development\u201d. The symposium will be in two parts:
(i) The event will proceed as follows: two (2) days of conference proceedings in Accra followed
by three (3) days of field trips according to the schedule indicated below. The sets of themes
of the conference will relate to geodynamics, mineralization, geochemistry, geochronology,
geophysics, mapping, lithology, sedimentology, imagery, environment (pollution and deforestation
related to mines), climate change and other related subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The events and targets are expected to: (i) generate active exchanges between the actors of the field
(enquiring, expert mining); (ii) produce scientific knowledge on the geology of the WAC for the
benefit of academia and teaching programmes and facilitate mining exploration; (iii) reinforce the
capacity of the participants on the field methods of the Paleoproterozoic (Birimian) basement geology
by the means of field trips (possible sampling of specimens).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
